EC – Wilma Grote Lecture with Bernadette Barton: Research as Social Justice Work

Wednesday, March 29th, at 6pm, in the Athena room in the Library

Dr. Bernadette Barton’s body of work merges activism and scholarship by giving voice to members of marginalized groups. A faculty member at Morehead State University and researcher on gender, sexuality and religion, Barton regularly draws on her scholarly findings to participate in public conversations about current issues. In this talk, Barton illustrates how her research projects on exotic dancers, Bible Belt gays, and raunch culture advance social justice goals.

Graduate Certificate in Digital Mapping with New Maps Plus – applications due April 2nd

Greetings from the University of Kentucky Department of Geography!

Are you interested in web mapping? Check out the online Graduate Certificate in Digital Mapping program at the University of Kentucky – we can help take your GIS career to the next level. While there are a full range of courses, we recommend experienced GIS professionals begin with MAP 672 – Programming for Web Mapping

In addition to MAP 672, we will also be offering MAP 671 – Intro to New Mapping (focusing on a desktop GIS workflow for web production) as well as MAP 673 – Design for Interactive Web Mapping. MAP 672 introduces students to JavaScript, HTML and CSS and is perfect for those who have work experience in desktop GIS, but have not yet begun web mapping. If this describes you, please email us so we can review your experience and consider an advanced enrollment.

All of these courses are offered completely online and are part of the New Maps Plus Graduate Certificate (11 credits). More details are available at the program’s webpage or Facebook page.

Designed with all levels of experience in mind, the New Maps Plus program at the University of Kentucky offers an unparalleled online learning experience. Applications for the session beginning April 17th are due April 2nd, 2017. Please contact us with any questions or suggestions.

Best,

Matthew Zook, Ph.D.

Full list of current access to ArcGIS as of 20170213

  • I added the times when Ginger 213 is available to the course blog. Ginger 213 Computer Lab Times – CRIM399
  • I can let people in Ginger 213 when it is closed but does not have a class scheduled.
  • Did you pick up an ArcGIS student copy? If so you can install that on one personal computer.
  • There are a few library computers with ArcGIS, but be aware that they have not been upgraded to the current version so they might be a little different (they should work for textbook tutorials fine).

Ginger 213 Computer Lab Times

ArcGIS is installed on the first three rows of computers in Ginger 213. The schedule of times when the lab is available is below. I can let people into the lab at other times as well. Just give me some warning so I can make sure I can be there.
